VISUAL MAPS

A visual map is a way to take an idea or concept and transform it into a visual aid for better understanding. Using a series of main ideas that branch into more specific ones, visual maps allow you to see complex information laid out in front of you for a more comprehensive understanding.

Mind mapping helps students comprehend, create new ideas an build connections. In this exercise, students have created visual maps about elemenents of visual expression.

CUBIST AFRICAN MASK

Masks are one of the elements of great African art that have most evidently influenced Europe and Western art in general; in the 20th century, artistic movements such as cubism, fauvism and expressionism have often taken inspiration from the vast and diverse heritage of African masks. Influences of this heritage can also be found in other traditions such as South- and Central American masked Carnival parades.

Students have created cardboard masks, inspired by all these referents.
